Government-supported scheme · Launched 27 October 2026

Up to £30,000 towards solar and battery — at 0% or low interest

The new Warm Homes Loan Scheme lets homeowners and landlords across the UK finance solar panels and battery storage — plus an EV charger alongside either — through approved lenders at a reduced rate. Battery-only retrofits count. We are the independent, MCS-certified installer that gets your quote into the shape a lender will accept.

Why it pays to move early

The fund is finite, and it is first come, first served

  • £300 million of government grant capital in this first phase
  • up to 5 percentage points off a lender's normal interest rate — some lenders are at 0%
  • 10 lenders approved and listed on GOV.UK at launch

The £300 million sits in a central pot that participating lenders draw down on a first-come, first-served basis — that is set out in the scheme rules, not marketing. When the money starts running low, lenders get six months' notice, then one month's final notice before grant support stops.

We are not going to invent a countdown: no official source has published a date by which the fund will run out. But survey, quote and lender approval all take time, and applications are funded in the order they arrive. If you want this, start now rather than later.

How many homes does £300 million actually stretch to?

Our illustrative estimate: 150,000+ typical solar installations across the whole of the UK.

The working, so you can check it: the £300 million is interest subsidy, not loan capital — the government pays lenders a grant of up to 20% of each loan. At the full 20%, £300 million supports about £1.5 billion of lending; the scheme's own stated intention is to support around £2 billion of private lending by 2030. Divide either by a £10,000 install and you get the figure above.

Illustrative estimate only — not an official government figure, and not a cap on the number of installations. It assumes a £10,000 average install and that every loan draws the maximum grant, neither of which will be exactly true. The underlying £300 million and £2 billion figures are verified; the division is ours. Spread across the UK's housing stock, it is not a lot — and it is allocated first come, first served.

What the loan can pay for

Three things we install, all fundable under the scheme

Solar PV and battery storage each have their own £15,000 cap, so a combined project can draw on both. An EV charger can ride along inside either — but never on its own.

Solar PV

New roof-mounted panels, or added to an array you already have. Scaffolding, safety equipment and the grid connection can go inside the loan.

Batteries — including battery-only

The rules cover both standalone battery installations and those paired with solar. No panels needed, and no need to have solar already.

EV chargers

An OZEV-approved charger is an eligible ancillary cost within a solar or battery job. It is not eligible as a standalone measure — we are upfront about that.

How it works

Four steps from curiosity to installed

You do not apply to the government. You apply to an approved lender — directly, through your mortgage provider, or through us at the point of sale.

  1. Check you qualify

You need to own the property — owner-occupier or private landlord — and it has to be a UK home. Two minutes with our eligibility checker.

  2. Get an MCS quote

We survey, design and give you an itemised quote showing the kW system size and our MCS number — exactly the format lenders are told to require.

  3. Apply to a lender

Compare the lenders listed on GOV.UK and apply. Terms from three years qualify for the rate reduction.

  4. We install and certify

We fit the system and lodge it with MCS. That certificate is what your lender uses to verify the job and claim its government grant.

The loan explained in full

Eligibility in plain English

Who can borrow — and who cannot

You can

  • Own and live in an existing home, anywhere in the UK
  • Own and let out a home as a private landlord, borrowing in your own name
  • Borrow separately for each property you own
  • Have a mortgage on the property — that is fine
  • Work from home, have an annexe, or run a short-term let
  • Apply with no income threshold and no scheme-level EPC requirement

You cannot

  • Apply as a tenant — but your landlord can
  • Borrow through a company, trust or SPV
  • Use it for commercial-only premises
  • Fund an EV charger on its own
  • Fund insulation, roofing or windows under this scheme
  • Double-fund the same measure with another public grant

Run the eligibility checker

Lenders also apply their own affordability and credit checks, and may ask for an EPC. The scheme itself does not set an income threshold or require you to insulate first.

Why us

An installer that tells you what the rules actually say

We have been installing for over 15 years, and we help you with both halves of this: getting the funding paperwork right, and doing the installation. End to end, one point of contact — even though the loan decision itself is always the lender's.

Quotes lenders accept

Dated, addressed to you, on headed paper, itemised, with our MCS number and the kW system size. That is the checklist lenders are given — we build to it.

We say no when it is no

An EV charger on its own is not eligible. Insulation is not eligible. A north-facing roof under a sycamore is not a good solar site. You will hear it from us first.

Local, established, accountable

Based in South Wales and installing for over 15 years, across Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bridgend and the valleys. Installation quality sits with us, under the MCS framework.
